Vision Sunday: Making More Room for What Matters Most

Vision Sunday was a powerful reminder of who we are as a church and where God is leading us.

Bridgewood has never claimed to be a perfect church, but it is a community of people who love Jesus and are committed to helping others follow Him. As we look toward the future, our focus is not simply on growth for growth’s sake—it’s about creating more opportunities for people to encounter Jesus and experience transformed lives.

Pastor Curt shared a personal health update, expressing deep gratitude for God’s faithfulness through a series of life-threatening medical challenges this year. After emergency surgeries, a lengthy hospital stay, and ongoing health concerns, he testified to God’s sustaining hand and the power of the church’s prayers. While additional surgeries and recovery lie ahead, his commitment remains unchanged: to continue serving God’s purpose and leading with faith.

The message then turned toward celebrating God’s faithfulness in the life of our church. Just over a year into the Dream Campaign, Bridgewood has already seen incredible generosity, with $1.8 million of the pledged $2 million received. Through faithful giving and wise stewardship, the church is positioned to pay off existing mortgages on three campuses while continuing construction on the new expansion. To remain debt-conscious and focused on the mission, leadership has also made the decision to sell the Gathering Campus and invest those resources into completing the expansion and equipping the new facility.

At the heart of the message was Proverbs 29:18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Vision brings clarity, purpose, and direction. Without it, people drift. Throughout Scripture, God consistently calls His people to live with a clear sense of purpose. Whether through dreams, visions, or the guidance of the Holy Spirit, God desires to lead His people toward His greater plan.

This vision is beautifully illustrated in Mark 2, where four men carry their paralyzed friend to Jesus. When they encounter a packed house and no way inside, they refuse to let obstacles stop them. Instead, they climb onto the roof, make an opening, and lower their friend directly in front of Jesus. Their determination reveals an important truth: healthy, growing churches are always willing to make more room for people who need Jesus.

That passage has become a driving force behind Bridgewood’s current vision. The expansion is not about filling seats or building larger facilities. As Pastor stated clearly, “A full house is not the goal. Transformed lives are the goal.” Every square foot of new space represents someone’s story—a marriage restored, an addiction broken, a life saved, a family healed, or a person discovering hope in Christ for the first time.

The challenge before the church is to never lose sight of the “empty mats” outside the walls. There are people all around us carrying burdens, pain, and brokenness who need an encounter with Jesus. The question is whether we will continue making room for them.

Looking ahead, the vision extends far beyond one building. Dreams of additional campuses, expanded ministries, special needs outreach, family life resources, leadership training opportunities, and new ways to serve surrounding communities are all part of what God may be preparing. While the scope of the vision is large, the mission remains simple: reach people with the hope of Jesus.

As Bridgewood moves forward, the invitation is for every person to find their place in the vision. Whether through serving, giving, praying, or simply saying yes to what God is asking, each person has a role to play.

Because in the end, the vision is not to fill a house—it’s to fill heaven.
And together, by God’s grace, we can make room for more people to experience the life-changing love of Jesus.
