Leading From Behind

Life can be confusing. Whether we're making major decisions about our future, navigating unexpected challenges, or simply trying to discern God's direction, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by uncertainty.

In Isaiah 30, God speaks a powerful promise to His people: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”.

The people of Israel had become fearful and placed their trust in human solutions instead of seeking God's guidance. Rather than turning to the Lord, they formed an alliance with Egypt for protection. Through the prophet Isaiah, God lovingly challenged them—and us—to stop relying on what we can see and instead learn to trust in God who we cannot see.

The first step is to cry it out. God invites us into constant communication with Him. Prayer isn't just a morning routine; it's an ongoing conversation throughout the day. When we cry out for help, God promises to hear and answer. Too often we exhaust every other option before turning to God, but He desires to be our first response, not our last resort.

The second step is to see it out. Isaiah speaks of the "bread of adversity" and the "water of affliction," reminding us that difficult seasons can become classrooms where God teaches us deep truths about Himself and about ourselves. The hardships we face are not always punishments—they are often opportunities for growth, refinement, and greater dependence on God.

Finally, we must walk it out. God doesn't usually hand us a complete roadmap for our lives. Instead, He gives us the next step. Like headlights illuminating only a short distance down a dark road, God's Word provides enough light for us to keep moving forward in faith. As we mature, God leads from behind, teaching us to trust His voice rather than rely solely on what we can see.

The invitation is simple: cry out to God, learn what He's teaching you in every season, and take the next faithful step.
You may not know what lies ahead, but you can trust the One who is guiding you. His voice is still speaking:
"This is the way. Walk in it."
