Body Language: Renewing Your Mind

In week two of our Body Language series, Pastor Curt continued the conversation about what our lives communicate about what we believe in God. The goal is to bring our beliefs and our actions into alignment so that the world around us can see a clear picture of the God who lives inside of us. God doesn’t just want part of us—He wants our whole spirit, soul, and body to be made new and used for His glory.

This week, the focus was on one of the most important parts of that process: our minds.

Our thoughts matter because our thoughts influence our lives. Every action begins with a thought, and the thoughts we continually entertain can create patterns that become increasingly difficult to break. Pastor Curt compared these patterns to deep ruts in a road—once they are established, it can feel like we are stuck traveling in the same direction. Wrong thinking, repeated over time, can become a stronghold in our lives.

But there is hope: we can choose what thoughts we allow to stay.

We may not always be able to control what enters our minds, but we can control how long we allow those thoughts to remain. Scripture calls us to capture our thoughts and bring them into obedience to Christ. When a thought doesn’t line up with God’s Word, we can reject it and replace it with what God says. As we repeatedly believe God’s truth, He begins creating new pathways in the way we think.

Romans 12:2 gives us the picture: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” The tension is between being conformed to the patterns around us and allowing God to transform us from the inside out. The world is constantly telling us what to believe, what to value, what to fear, and how to see ourselves and God. If we aren't intentional, we can begin absorbing those messages and allowing them to shape our thinking.

But God offers something different.

A renewed mind leads to peace. An unmanaged mind brings pressure, conflict, and stress, while a managed mind brings confidence and strength. Isaiah 26:3 reminds us that God keeps in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast.

Renewing our minds isn't simply about trying harder to behave better. It is about allowing the Holy Spirit to change the way we think. We need His help to let go of old patterns, surrender our thoughts to God, and become new people from the inside out.

The good news is that God is interested in changing our minds, not just our circumstances. When our thinking changes, we can face the same circumstances with a completely different perspective. We can begin to see our lives through God's truth rather than through our feelings, fears, or the patterns of the world.

Ultimately, renewing our minds is an act of surrender. We can pray, “God, I give you my mind. I surrender my thoughts to You. Renew me. Transform me. Help me think Your thoughts and follow Your will.”

The invitation is simple: surrender your mind to God and allow Him to renew you. As we capture our thoughts, fill our minds with God's Word, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us, God can create new pathways in our thinking and transform every part of our lives.

It all begins in the mind.
